Ed Hardy History
Ed Hardy was born in 1945 in Iowa. His full name is Don Ed Hardy. He is an accomplished totto artist, although is now known most for his Ed Hardy range by Christian Audiger. Ed Hardy has been tattooing since around 1967 when he finished his degree in printmaking. He has focused on a true understanding of the Japanese and Asian heritage of the art, and combining that with traditional American tattooing. In 1982, Ed Hardy and his wife formed a company designed to promote alternative art through publishing. The company is named Hardy Marks Publications, and Ed Hardy has now published over 25 books on alternative artforms.
Although living in Japan from 1973 and throughout much of the 80's, studying with various japanese tattoo artists, Ed Hardy has since retired from tatooing, preferring to exhibit more traditional art pieces such as porcelain painting. However his studio, Tattoo City in San Francisco is still running, and Ed Hardy still acts as overseer and mentor.
